Christmas Project - Adopt-A-Family - Dec 2011

A Big Thanks!!!

I'm not sure how to start thanking everyone!! So I will do my best!!

Our Adopt-A- Family was our biggest success yet!!!

Not only did we change this family's life for Christmas, but we actually made a huge change in their future...

  • Before we were matched up a family, a very brave mother of four kids left a very unhealthy relationship. She was living at the Women's Shelter and her four kids were very anxious to be living in their very own home again.
  • On Dec. 20th, 2011, she had relocated into a home again with her four small kids. All of them were sleeping on the floor, but very grateful to be together.
  • WE, the Prince Albert Chapter of the SaskTel Pioneers, did a collection and purchased some great gifts for the each of the kids to open Christmas morning!! We also presented the family with an awesome Christmas hamper - filled with food for Christmas supper and some staples, Christmas goodies, decorations, and a copy of our Pioneer " The Giving Book " (written by Ellen Sabin).
  • Our Chapter also donated a salvage Desktop computer along with the monitor and keyboard.  When the 12 year old daughter carried this upstairs to their living room, her face said it all...she was so thankful.
  • I think what overwhelmed and touched me the most was how many Pioneers and family members came forward and donated critical items that have really changed this family for life:
    • They now have four beds to sleep on, including 2 Queen size beds, one twin size bed and a twin size bunk bed.
    • They now have a leather recliner to sit on and watch TV.
    • Three TV's.
    • They received a TV stand, a shoe rack, a Microwave, and an ottoman, sheet sets and a comforter set.
    • And gently used clothes, books, and other linens.
  • That night as we were unpacking all these items, the mother was so emotional and thankful, she just could not hide her tears.
  • It was at the moment that I realized why I volunteer and why this Pioneer project is so special to me.
  • So, again ... I, as well as all the Prince Albert Pioneer Executives, want to truly thank all the PEOPLE who helped with this project: everyone who planned all the details, the organizing, the collecting of money, the generous givers, the people who drove around and collected all the larger items, the realtor who donated his van, the gift shoppers and all the wrappers.

    Have a great Christmas everyone!

Give a Little Life - Dec 2011

Donation to the Victoria Union Hospital.

Mont St. Joseph (Monty Bonspiel) - Dec 2011

Although Mont St Joseph Home has several portable lifts, having a lift in each residents room has a tremendous advantage for both residents and the staff. Our Prince Albert Club donated $ 300 towards their curling bonspiel and joined in curling with a team.

Teddy Bear Mountain

The annual Teddy Bear Toss sponsored by the Sasktel Pioneers and the Prince Albert Raiders Hockey Club has netted a mountain of Teddy Bears for the Children's Ward at the Victoria Regional Hospital. "Raider fans literally "pitched - in" big time this year", said Dale Peet, Operations Manager - Customer Service with Sasktel in Prince Albert. Representatives from both the Sasktel Pioneers and team players from the Raiders Hockey Club were on hand to present hundreds of Teddy Bears to the nursing staff in the Children's Ward (Pediatric Unit) at the Victoria Regional Hospital.

Jane Antoine, Nursing Unit Manager, Pediatric Unit said, "This fall and winter has been an extremely busy time in the unit. For many of the children this is the first time they have ever been away from home so the Teddy Bears are very much appreciated by the children. We make sure every child goes home with a Teddy Bear."

Rob Dalziel, executive director with the Victoria Hospital Foundation commented the partnership formed with the Sasktel Pioneers, the Prince Albert Raiders Hockey Club and the hospital foundation has resulted in thousands of Teddy Bears being donated over the past several years.
